Do Not Call Me a Hero

Abstract

"Do Not Call Me a Hero" deals with the powerlessness healthcare workers truly have to save the individuals they care for.  It confronts the dehumanization that exists within the healthcare field - particularly during the pandemic with the problematic use of the word "hero."  Told through the framework of a relationship I had with one particular resident of a senior living facility, this essay aims to grapple with the idea of what it means to professionally care.
