Abstract

This essay examines how my personal experience with my cousin, who lived with schizophrenia, shaped the way I connected with a patient during my psychiatry clerkship. It highlights how my understanding of mental health—shaped by family interactions, a deep interest in art, and creativity—guided my approach to patient care on the psychiatry wards.
